Bio

Siân White is Professor of English and Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Letters at James Madison University. A specialist in modernism and Irish studies, her research focuses on intimacy, gender, and the politics of narrative form. Her most recent work addresses evocations of modernism in contemporary Irish or British women’s writing. She co-edited The Edinburgh Companion to Irish Modernism (2021) and has published work on Virginia Woolf, James Joyce, Elizabeth Bowen, Anna Burns, Joanna Walsh, and others. Recent courses taught include “Woolf, Bloomsbury, and Feminism”; “The Rebel and the Artist in Modern Irish Literature”; “Stories of Northern Ireland and the Irish Border”; and “The Postcolonial Turn in Irish Studies.” In her free time, she enjoys writing, swimming, drawing, singing, and delighting in her good fortune with her husband and beloved canine, Moose.
